About

Sophie focuses on advising UK resident and non-resident individuals on their tax planning. Her clients are frequently hedge and private equity fund managers, as well as entrepreneurs. She is particularly knowledgeable on carried interest, tax efficient investing for trusts (especially protected settlements) and family investment companies as part of larger succession planning.

Sophie was listed in Spear's 2019 Top 10 Tax Advisors.

Experience

Sophie has advised trustees and the settlor of a complex offshore private trust company structure holding hedge fund investments as well as more general investments, on (i) ensuring the investments were tax efficient given the profile of the settlors and beneficiaries (ii) avoiding tainting under the new deemed domicile rules (iii) linking the structure to a philanthropic focus and (iii) working with investment managers to agree tax efficient guidelines for the structure.

Sophie has also established a number of sophisticated family investment companies with multiple share classes as well as family limited partnerships, which both offer alternative approaches to succession planning.

Sophie has also advised on holding structures for ‘boys toys’ – planes, yachts and sometimes art – to make sure they can be enjoyed and also provide liability protection and tax efficiency.
