Our consumer culture is built upon being sold the newest iterations as fashion and tech moves at a pace. New rules being discussed by the European Commission (which could still impact the UK) are set to tackle the “throwaway” culture, and the environmental impact that has, by looking to manufacturers to build things to last longer. If introduced, from a consumer perspective, we could see a radical change to the current assessments under the Consumer Rights Act of what constitutes satisfactory quality and fitness for purpose.
